We’ve spoken about Nectar before, and while it’s not our favourite rewards program, if you are going to be shopping at a participating store anyway. Now there’s a new way to collect Nectar points without having to trudge on down to your local Sainsbury’s, Argos, or Homebase.
The Daily Mail, which we admit might be a decisive paper for some, partnered with Nectar in 2017 to offer points for every edition of the paper you buy/read. If you’re a Daily Mail reader and signed up to the Daily Mail Rewards programme via its My Mail website, you could earn up to 70 Nectar points a week with the newspaper.
How does My Mail Rewards work?
The scheme works via a unique 12 digit number printed on the back page of each edition of the Daily Mail. To earn points, you need to be a member of the Daily Mail Rewards Club (MyMail), and have linked your Nectar card to the account. Then all you have to do is log into your My Mail account and enter the unique number on the back of the paper.
You don’t need to do this every day. You have four days after the paper is published to enter the code. So, if you bought the paper on Monday, you’d have until Thursday to enter the unique number.
How many My Mail Nectar points can I earn?
The exact number of points you can earn all depends on whether or not you are a subscriber to the Daily Mail, and which subscription you have, and which papers you enter the code from.
- Monday – Friday: 5 points for each day they enter the unique number
- Saturday: 10 points
- Sunday 15 points
Bonus points: Enter five codes in a week and you’ll get an extra 30 bonus points.
That means there’s a total of 80 points a week up for grabs.
More points for subscribers
Subscribers to ‘The Ultimate’ or ‘Premium’ pack also receive 5 points each time the unique code is entered, but these points are doubled before being applied to your account.
If you subscribe to the digital edition of the paper, ‘Mail+’, you are automatically credited with 150 Nectar points each month. As there are no unique numbers in this version of the paper, there is nothing more you need to do.
How much ££ can you earn from Daily Mail rewards and Nectar?
Each Nectar point is worth 0.5p.
- 2 points are worth 1p
- 100 points 50p
- 500 points £2.50
- 1000 points £500
With 80 points a week from MyMail, you’d stand to make just over £20 a year.
Subscribers to Mail+ would earn £39 a year, but Mail+ costs £65 annually, so never subscribe just to earn points.

Earning Nectar points from Mail Rewards without buying the paper
As all you need to do to earn Nectar points via Mail Rewards is to enter the unique number on the back page of the paper, there’s no need to actually buy the paper itself.
MyWaitrose Card holders get a free newspaper when they spend more than £10 in store, but if you aren’t a member, there are other ways of getting the code for free though they maybe ethically questionable.
Regular commuters might find a copy of the paper on their train. Perhaps your office has daily papers delivered to waiting areas. If you regularly go for a coffee, you will often find a stack of papers for the public to read, The Daily Mail is sure to be one of them.
Update: Daily Mail Rewards drops Nectar from Mail rewards
Unfortunately, after a five-year run, the Mail Nectar points scheme is coming to end. In September 2023, the Daily Mail announced plans to drop Nectar from its rewards programme.
The scheme will continue to run until the end of 2023, meaning there’s still more than 1,000 points up for grabs at the time of this update (1 October 2023 – 31 December 2023)
Daily Mail Rewards beyond Nectar points
In addition to MyMail Nectar points, Daily Mail rewards members also gain a number of other benefits, such as free Coffee in select retailers like M&S, Caffe Nero, and McDonalds. Plus, access to the Mail Shop, with discounts everything from Homeware, garden equipment, books, and more.
Are MyMail Nectar points worth it?
The amount of Nectar points you get from redeeming codes on the paper isn’t very generous, especially when compared to other schemes.
On top of that, you also need to buy (or otherwise procure) a copy of the paper. The cost of paper itself is not fully covered by the amount of Nectar points you receive, so this is really only worth it, if you are someone who would be buying or reading the Daily Mail anyway.
Want more rewards?
Nectar is one of the most popular reward schemes around, but as we’ve shown in the past, it often, when it comes to loyalty cards, it often pays to be unfaithful.
