England will soon be joining Scotland in distributing polymer banknotes. The new durable polymer notes are due to enter circulation in late 2016, starting with the Sir Winston Churchill £5 note. The new notes will have a life span up to two and a half times greater than those currently in circulation.

We thought this a perfect time to take a look at the history of the British Pound. The oldest currency still in use today.
